Health and Wellbeing

Picture
Entrepreneurs help us grow our local economy by starting businesses that lead to new job creation and generate wealth in our community.  Behind every business is an individual who makes big decisions and is risk taking but all too often works in isolation and prioritises business demands above  their own health and wellbeing needs.

Ballymena Business Centre has worked at the heart of the Ballymena Community for over 30 years.  We have had the privilege to work with many individuals from all economic, social and educational backgrounds.  We have watched individuals celebrate when their ideas and plans are successful and we have also watched individuals experience very difficult times when their ideas don't go to plan or when the demands of their business have had a negative impact on their personal health and wellbeing.

If you are experiencing challenges in life remember help is available.  The #Here2Help app is now available and FREE to download from Google Play Store and the Apple iTunes App Store for your smartphone or tablet device.

Crafty Wellness

Crafty Wellness was formed by Creatives within Midtown Makers in early 2019.  Through the use of creative workshops Crafty Wellness reaches out to help people, reduce loneliness and give people a place that they feel at home, clear their mind of troubles for a few hours and maybe meet a new friend.

Crafty Wellness is supported by Ballymena Business Centre and hosted in Midtown Makers Studio and Shop.

The iAM Project

The aim of The iAM Project is to give people a safe and non-judgemental place to try new experiences to help with mental health and well-being, primarily through exercise and finding new capabilities and social circles.

This is Mark Donald, one of our Business Advisor's on the Go for It Program. Not only does Mark help people set up their own business, he is in the throes of his own start-up which is a social enterprise called the iAM Project.

The aim of the Project is to give people a safe and non-judgemental place to try new experiences to help with mental health and well-being, primarily through exercise and finding new capabilities and social circles.

So far they have completed 5 projects ranging from Yoga to Strongman Training. The projects are all free to attend and they are funded through the sales of garments like the one Mark is wearing.

Although the Coronavirus has put a hiatus on plans for now, there are already 4 projects lined up for the future including Mobility Training, Dancing, Judo / Self-Defence and Kung Fu!

Mark said: "I have a real empathy for people wanting to start a business and being in a young start up myself means that I have a great understanding of the struggles and demands of starting a business, and I also have the great feeling of seeing things come to fruition!

Mental health support is something that is close to my heart and getting the great feedback from those attending and seeing a difference from the ground up makes everything worthwhile.

I've a great team in the iAM Project now and support is what it is all about. We can't wait to get started again when it is safe to do so!"
